From the 14th -18th of November it was Energy Awareness Week at Hounsdown School. This year the emphasis was all on taking action and getting pupils to reduce their own Carbon Footprint. Tia Bennett (year 10), Nicola Stakesby-Lewis (Year 9), Jonty Loveless and Georgia Pritchard (Year 8) led assemblies all week in which they told pupils at the potential problems of Global Warming and what we can do as individuals to help.
Following the assemblies tutor groups were asked to decorate a footprint with pledges they have made to reduce their carbon footprint. The footprints will be on display around school and the best designs in each Year have earned house points and a prize. The winners were:
Year 7BR
Year 8BN
Year 9PL
Year 10LI
Year 11ML
There was a tutor group quiz all about Energy and the winners in each year were 7MG, 8MT, 9HT, 10SE, 11YN .
On Thursday Lunchtime pupils and staff were asked to take up the Carbon Challenge in 038. They competed to produce the most electricity in 10 seconds using pedal power.
The overall winner was Jordan Downer in 8ME. The winners of each of the other year groups were Alex Nayler, Tiffany Harvey, Nicola Stakesby-Lewis and George Williams.
Mr Patel won the staff competition.
